7 technologies that make SEO easy?

Most SEO’s and reputation managers are technologists and heart, though some of the best are of course statisticians they do tend to deal with the very dry end of SEO space. I got asked the other day what tools and kit we use to manage reputations and optimize pages. So here is 7 technologies we use:

  1. IBM omnifind - You can get the Yahoo/IBM free version here, This is a powerful search tool, which searches our Customer relationship management software, document depositories, all our sites, and that of our clients competitors (though this is not our primary tool) as well. All nicely categorised for us. This is a rather intensive process and neads a dedicated server all of its own, but having all the data at your finger tips is fantastic.
  2. XML Sitemaps - all our sites have sitemaps not only do they help organise your site for search engines and allow you to provide extra information to the engines, and if you do this right you improve your crawl times on certain pages. But it also helps with site based duplicate content, if you only list one of the duplicate pages then this is the page Google ranks. If your using Drupal try the xml sitemaps module.
  3. Keyword analysis tools - ok we use a custom made one, that hooks into our other tools, but we also use SEO book keyword analysis tool it is probably one of the best of a very good set.
  4. Keyword strength and Page Strength - Both from SEOMoz are two great tools the keyword strength analyzer looks at keywords and provide information on search based on that keyword, useful for whittling down your keywords. The page strength is a great tool that works out relevant page strength for a site or page, its a much more reliable indicator of popularity and trust then Google PR.
  5. Crawler simulation, again we use our own but selfseo has a good crawler simulation which also looks at keyword relevancy.
  6. QUIT, quick indexing tool, technically we don’t use it but something similar, but Bluehat has made an open source tool for getting articles and sites fast indexed you can find it here of course you use this tool at your own risk, but the results have been according to punters positive.
  7. Google reader, feed readers are the only real way to keep up to date with the bloggers out there

So what tools do you use for Search engine optimisation and reputation management?
Other tools we haven’t mentioned include business and site analysis software business intelligence software and site creation bits, we can leave those for another time.
