Welcome to one of the dumbest SEO mistakes to make

Its no secret that I have a personal website and blog nor that we have been experimenting with it a bit, this week I choose to take the bullet and merge the blog and site together.

My biggest worry was that Google would see my site as spam, having decided that my wordpress.com site was the original (though with so few posts this was very unlikely however ultimately this is a test for if and when we migrate clients blogs. To make life easier both for users and search engines I prepared or am preparing the following;

  • RSS via Feedburner for syndication switch over, so RSS users will have no problems.
  • Change all posts on tnash.wordpress.com to teasers linking to full posts
  • Continue to post short teasers on important posts for the next couple of months
  • Make sure their is lots of one way link love (but not to much its not a back door now)

This all seems pretty straight forward except Darren from problogger just had to have a group writing project and yes I entered, endless amount of link love all pointing at the wrong blog!

Now boys and girls on this cold winters day, if your going to enter such competitions make sure you enter on the right site!

By the way the launch date for the new site is Christmas day so after Christmas pud drop by at www.timnash.me.uk and to see the offending post that’s caused my SEO nightmare visit “You don’t have to be a writer to be a blogger“.

Merry Christmas
Tim

Sorry guys the comments for this post have been closed, it seems to be the primary target for the spammers at the moment, I’m sure the fad will where off but Aksimet didn’t pick up a few of the last lot. If you have a comment to make how about writing about it on your blog and linking to this post.

    [...] Promoting the site, Links Getting people to link toyou can be a nightmare, but the simplest way is to simply ask sorry beg for links, and after my earlier boo boo with the wordpress.com blog I thought I could do with getting some good links going to timnash.me.uk by my calculations its due to hopefully come out of the sandbox in the next few weeks. So how to garner links well by offering something in return, in this case another link or two. [...]

    Well, OK! This looks great, Gary!

    I am very new to blogs, having used them just a couple of times with students who were already accustomed to writing in them.

    But I am excited at the possibility that this medium could help us share lessons, ideas, and materials after MyGateway goes down.

    Let’s hear from others.
