The Tim Nash Experiment part2

This is an update on the Tim Nash experiment see part 1 here.

But just to recap here is a quick summary of the experiment.

To claim the number 1 spot with the domain timnash.me.uk in the shortest space of time for the keyword search Tim Nash.

The bad news I’m not at number 1 yet, indeed I’m stuck in Google pit that is the sandbox. Now I thought I had gotten round this little problem but first what is the “Sandbox”. The Sandbox is a near mythical filter used by Google and some other search engines to put sites on probation (explained in detail here) they do this by restrict your position on search results for your primary keywords now guess what timnash.me.uk primary keywords might be?
I thought I had gotten round the Sandbox by holding off using the domain for several months (a place holder has been up for about 3 months prior to site launch) however it really wasn’t a very helpful holder and no valid keyword pair would have been created.

Lesson 1 - When preparing your domain for launch, register early place sensible place holder with meaningful text, one idea maybe to structure your text with alternate keywords to once you wish to target. This would result in lower traffic in first few weeks of your actual site launch but would reduce the risk of the sand pit engulfing your keywords (this suggestion works only if Google doesn’t reassign keyword matches)

So what’s to be done about this situation, well the good news is Google will let me out of the box in a couple of months naturally and in the mean time I need to recover and get some interest in the site. The nice static page was never going to last so it’s time to get dynamic, enter Drupal.

Lesson 2 - Content is king, I knew this I really did, honestly I did but well I’m lazy…
By the way that’s not an excuse rather a statement of fact. But the site was suffering from lack of any meaningful content and was in many ways just an extension to the place holder. Always continue to add content.

The easiest way to add content is via a CMS but which to use, WordPress/Joomla/Plone no it had to be Drupal really, and as I’m writing this post, the new Drupal version of timnash.me.uk is going live its primary new feature a blog.

While the blog won’t be as updated as this one, I hope to add at least one entry a week. But why a blog you already have one? I do and that’s partly the reason blogs have a major advantage in that they provide a site with a vast range of keywords possibilities our top Google searches here at Venture Skills blog is “Skype3 Beta”, and “refspoof firefox2.0″ surprised? So by adding content I am increasing visitors.

Tim Nash Experiment hasn’t quite gone to plan but let see where it goes, join me in part 3 to see how I’m doing. If your looking for the new CMS based version visit here for the next few days I’m leaving the Index.htm up while I add content to the separate section
